The most likely cause of a trailers connector getting stuck inside the socket is attributed to corrosion on the pins. If you can, remove the trailer connector from the vehicle so you can have more room to work. You can use a lubricant if you wipe it out after but force will be the best thing for this. We're familiar with this issue which happens when the incorrect switch is used. Kwikee Steps use two different magnetic switches. One is a normally open circuit and the other is normally closed circuit. The switch must match the controller. Otherwise, the steps will work in reverse, as you described.
